Icicles to Warm Up City Parks

Fernlea Flowers of Delhi, Ontario announces the donation of approximately 100,000 Icicle™ Pansy plants for public parks throughout Ontario.

Icicle Pansies are an extremely hardy variety recently introduced by Fernlea. Icicle Pansies are planted in fall and bloom until the snow flies. They bloom again in early spring; often when there is still snow on the ground.

space Guaranteed to survive the winter or your money back, these beautiful plants were introduced to the market for the first time this fall and received an excellent response from customers.

“Icicles are a great choice for public spaces because they put colour in late fall and early spring gardens, where there was likely none before”, says Jeff Howe, Co-owner Fernlea Flowers. He goes on to say, “Icicle pansies are also low maintenance, requiring no special care after they are planted”.

As part of Fernlea's trial garden initiative, plants have been donated to park authorities in Toronto, Oakville, Kitchener, Cambridge, Simcoe, Waterloo, Tillsonburg, Brantford, Niagara Falls and North Bay. Recipients will get between 1,000 and 20,000 plants each to beautify park areas. Fernlea also donated over 15,000 plants to Cullen Gardens in Whitby.

In Toronto, Icicle Pansies are planted at Kew Gardens, Metro Hall, Riverdale Farm, Lawrence Park, Campbell House and Grange Park. "This is a great idea", says Dianna Clarke of Toronto Parks and Recreation, "we get gorgeous flowers to plant in areas that usually look dormant. I can't wait to see the pansies in early spring when we're all looking forward to that first sign of warmer weather".

Icicle Pansies and their smaller cousin, Icicle Violas can be purchased at garden centres throughout Ontario. Interested consumers can visit www.iciclepansy.com for store locations near them, or more information about the plants. A list of city parks with trial gardens is also posted on the web site.
